England Failed

Cahill Appeal Rejected

Johannesburg - Efforts to free the Australian Tim Cahill from punishment certainly fail. The midfielder will remain banned due to red cards, but only for one game.

Cahill a straight red card when Australia faces Germany, Monday (14/06/2010), then. Socceroos camp thinks it does not deserve a red card and filed an appeal.

Mexico Not Satisfied with Draw Results

Johannesburg - Mexico could take control when faced with South Africa. Then the 1-1 draw in the final game El Tri make even less satisfied.

At the beginning of the game, Carlos Vela directly cs banged and giving serious threats for the wicket of South Africa. Vela even had time to break down the wicket-bafana Bafana although the goal was then disallowed because of offside.

2010 FIFA World Cup: Latest Ticketing figures

It is a very special day tomorrow, when it will be exactly one year to kick-off of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ South Africa, the very first on African soil. The second ticketing phase on a first come, first serve basis will continue until 16 November.

As of today (with four out of 32 teams qualified, in addition to the hosts South Africa) there have been a total of 630,021 tickets in 188 different countries/territories sold. Nearly half of those total orders have been submitted by South Africans (301,601). Outside of South Africa, supporters from the USA have purchased the largest number of tickets (73,441), followed by the United Kingdom (42,907), Germany (30,880) and Australia (15,038). Reigning champions Italy have so far received 6,063 ticket orders, Brazil 5,777 and from France 5,106 tickets have been so far sold.

Peter Mokaba Sports Complex

Polokwane will be building a new stadium for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ that will be situated in the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex. The stadium will be approximately 5km from the city centre, with a gross seating capacity of 45,000.

It will be a welcome addition to the Limpopo Province. They have the largest number of registered football players in South Africa.

Volunteers excited for 2010

South Africa’s ‘unsung heroes’ came out in their numbers for one last time as volunteers from across South Africa rejoiced at their significant contribution to South Africa and the success of the FIFA Confederations Cup.

Although it was a time to celebrate as volunteers from the four host cities attended ‘thank you’ lunches over the weekend, next year’s 2010 FIFA World Cup™ was definitely on their minds.

Czech FA chief turns coach

New Czech Football Federation (CMFS) head Ivan Hasek announced on Tuesday he was taking over the Czech national team as head coach until the end of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifiers.

"An extraordinary situation requires an extraordinary solution," said Hasek, pointing out that the Czechs stand just fourth in qualifying Group Three, seven points off the top place finish which guarantees a place in next year’s finals.

USA striker Charlie Davies on the FIFA Confederations Cup

Young Charlie Davies arrived in South Africa for the FIFA Confederations Cup hoping for experience and, perhaps, a little playing time off the bench to add to his handful of caps. What he got, however, was a sped-up introduction to international football at the highest level. He came through his baptism of fire unscathed and as one of the USA’s top performers in a glory run to a first-ever global final.

Owen For World Cup

Gary Neville believes Michael Owen’s move to Manchester United can rekindle his England career. The striker, who joined the Red Devils from Newcastle United this summer, has found himself frozen out of the international picture under Fabio Capello.

"Anyone who plays for United over a season has a great chance of getting into an international team, no matter whether it be England or any other country," said Neville. "It’s a hard club to play for and if you’re playing well and doing well then you have a great chance.

The 34-year-old continued: "I have an opportunity. There’s still a long way to go for anyone who thinks they can be in the squad.

"I like playing for England and want to be there. It’s frustrating not winning anything with England and not getting to finals but there’s still a chance there for me."
